Background
Training on the real equipment is the best training, but it is not always possible to go to the field. A computer simulator allows scenarios to be run again and again, safely and at low cost. For the training to be realistic, the trainee must operate the equipment they will operate in reality.
The challenge
- Two languages: the system speaks its own protocols, such as RS422, CAN or RS485, and the simulator runs on a computer.
- Real time: any delay between the trainee's action and the simulator's response harms the realism of the training.
- No changes to the system: the equipment must stay identical to the operational equipment.
What we develop
- An interface board between the system and the computer, over USB or Ethernet.
- Firmware that translates the protocols in both directions, in real time.
- Simulation of sensors and signals: the system receives what it would receive in the field, according to what happens in the simulation.
- Feeding the trainee's actions back to the simulator, for recording and debriefing.
